I just thought I would share with folks that I placed my first order with Powder Inc today. I got a good helping of southern hospitality, much like Dixie Gun Works has given me. My printer is down so I called them and they were more than happy to fax a copy of the release form to a local business. They did so immediately so that I wouldn't have to spend all day at the office supply store waiting for my form. I then had some issues running my card through online. This happens to me often when UPS is being used because my billing address is my PO Box and certain items can't go through the post office. I called them again and they fixed it for me.

For those that are curious, I ordered 25 pounds of KIK powder and it worked out to $12.50 per pound.

• 10 pounds 3F
• 3 pounds 4F

Add these folks to the list of people I would gladly give future business to.

They are great to do business with. It was the perfect service I called them up they received my emailed scanned copy of the release statement I ordered 5lbs of powder (3lb GoEX, 2lb Swiss FFg) They emailed me a tracking number and it arrived quickly I wish every company was this good to work with.

That's what I am hoping. I figure if true black powder availability becomes a problem, I will at least have what I need to prime the pan in my flintlock (or maybe later, flintlocks). As long as I have proper prime, I can always cheat and use a substitute for my main charge in a pinch.

Preserve- Looks like your set for now on pider. But Coonies in Hobbs NM is a Goex distributor. They just don't have a web site as far as I can tell.
Been a few years but I think they are still there.

Yeah I called Coonies before placing the order. They do carry Goex, but by going with Powder Inc I was able to get KIK and save about $50 on the case.

Speaking for myself, I would never buy 4 pounds of 4F powder. In fact, I regret buying 1 pound of 4F powder for my flintlocks.

To my way of thinking, the idea of using 4F powder in preference to 3Fg powder in the pan is somewhat overblown.
The hundredth or two of a second increase in ignition speed that is gained cannot be noticed by mortal man.

Add to this the fact that 4F powder will pick up moisture from a slightly fouled pan on humid days making it inert.
3Fg powder is much less likely to pick up this moisture making it more reliable.

While this is of no consequence to the target shooter who is going to fire his gun within seconds of loading it, to the hunter it can become important.

along those lines, i still shoot from the same lb of goex 4F that my dad bought in 1983. there's way more than half a pound left.

Respect yer opinion but don't agree.
I use 4Fg for several reasons. It primes and flows easier. It comes out of those genuine mountain man style :wink: brass thingys easier.
I detect a notable difference between 3Fg and 2Fg when used for prime and (probably subjectivly) believe there is a difference between 4 and 3.
And, most importantly, I like it. May not float yer stick but it floats mine. :v

I'm fortunate that my sister in law lives in Hot Springs, which is only an hour away from Powder, Inc. When ever the wife wants to visit her sister, I get a load of powder. By picking it up myself, there is no shipping or Haz Mat charges. I get real black powder for less then any of the subs. You are right, they are great people to deal with. I agree with Zonie. I have switched from FFFFg to FFFg for prime for the same reasons mentioned. Instead of buying a pound of FFFFg, I just buy another pound of FFFg, which can be used for prime or main charge. Just prime from my horn. No need for a brass pan primer. If your flintlock is working properly, you can't tell the difference between the two. Anyway, congradulations on your powder shipment :thumbsup:

I just use FFFg for everything in my flintlocks as well - even the larger bores.

When I use up my 4F I'm switching to 3F for prime and when my 2F is gone I'll be using 3F for everything. Keeping it simple... :wink:

I'm glad you are happy with your 4F powder but if you want something that might be noticeably faster buy yourself some Swiss "Null B".

Pletch found it to be the very fastest igniting powder of all.

Problem is, it's scarcer than hen's teeth.

Just for info, Powder Inc does carry Swiss Null B. Their best price is $28.55 per pound (shipping and hazmat included) when purchased in 25 or 50 pound lots.

Yep, you sure can. They will mix any grain size or brand.
