Over the past week I had to trim my Granny Smith apple tree and thought I would try some whittleing on a lagre branch to see if it would carve well. The wood was wet and my knife sharp and cut that apple wood like butter. I made a small powder measure from that branch and it turned out well I think. Did folks back in the day make powder measures from wood? I know wood plane bodies were made from apple or other fruit woods. Just asking ! Mudd Turtle.

Put that measure in a Baggie and put a couple pin holes in it and set it on the shelf for a couple months or it will probably split/crack on you. To answer your question. Yes, an river cane measures were somewhat popular too!

Or tip of a buffler horn and you can make a necklace of it.Or any horn, but i like the idea of makin use of tree trimmins :)

Yes but I think it was usually seasoned or dried wood. Some were turned on a lathe- rattlesnake tail shapes, etc. Bone with a lead plug in the base, metal tubes, antler.
