Well I did it, I put in the powder order for 25 lbs of goex. I hope that it keeps for a long time since currently I am shooting about a pound and a half a year.

I wanted to try Kix but they were out of stock, Maybe next time.

if you keep it dry it will keep for a long time. i have shot some as old a 5 years or more. one time i bought about 15 lbs. of curtis&harvey that was 10 years old at the time and it shot just as good as the new stuff.

im going to have to do this . . . the only blackpowder i can find in the entire state of mississippi is 2F goex and it costs $18 a pound! :shocked2:

Thats exactly why I placed my order, $18.99 a pound is too much.

$10.30 per pound is much better but you have to lay out about 275 for 25 lbs but hey "I saved"

Not too long back I made my first bulk order from Powder Inc. It's sure cheaper than trying to find it locally, especially when no shops carry it and I have to hope to get lucky at a gun show.

Don't worry, kept sealed and dry, it keeps for decades! Just before making my order, I was using up a can of Goex from the late '70's/early '80's that I found hiding in storage. It worked perfectly.

For anyone thinking that 25 lbs is a bit much, see if you can find people to split the order with you. I didn't have enough muzzleloaders to find anyone to split the case with, but I don't like to share anyway! :rotf:

Get a surplus GI ammo canister and store your powder in it; a cool dry place is best. Should keep for indefinetly.

I brought out the last of some powder a local dealer had when he stopped selling real BP (last place I could purchase local). One can was some FFg Goex in the "old style" can, shoots the same, as far as I/my rifles can tell, as the new stuff.

P.S. Anyone know when Goex changed their packaging (logo on 1 lb cans)?
