I have a question, I just bought some bulk goex 3f and can't find enough empty cans to put it in. Is plastic jars with a screw lid safe to store it in? thanks

I got some Goex 4F about ten years ago in a trade, in a plastic container and it still works fine. Leon

I have a bunch of empty Goex cans, if you pay the shipping I'll send you 25 of mine. I'm in the Seattle area, so freight shouldn't be much.

anything that is air tight will work just fine. i have some 6 year old powder that was left in a pepper shaker with the lid closed, in a box in my hunt room. goes off every time and no clumps. i usually store my powder in my safe which is dehumidified. the old timers got it to go off, so can you

i would not do it. Some plastics are prone to static electricity buildup--a static spark is the last thing you want around blackpowder.

Yes I will gladly pay postage and a little for the cans if you want. if you would be kind enough to email me with an amount I will send you a check or money order. THANKS  [email protected]

Where did you get it that it was in bags? I thought they only shipped in cans now? It used to be cheaper to buy the bags and fill your own cans.

Thanks,
Mark C. Foster

Be sure to Clean those cans out good before putting them in the mail. Don't want any powder sniffing mutt to think you are some kind of terrorist shipping explosives.

There is a guy in our club that works for the railroad, and picks it up for us in texas I think.

I think the distinction is they don't SHIP bulk powder in plastic bags, but you can buy it over the counter that way...large plastic bags inside cardboard cartons

Actually many powders are shipped in plastic containers...I think even Swiss is in plastic ones

He might get it from Scheutzen Powder Inc. They're a distributor in Texas.

The plastic containers that bp (swiss) comes in are not ordinary plastic. I think they have a high carbon content to obviate static. Its not the powder that can ignite, its the dust.

Any well trained scent dog certified to identify explosives is trained to sniff both smokless-- nitrocellulose based powder, and Black powder, as well as C4, etc.

A friend of mine who is a Master K-9 Trainer, came to me to get some powder for training aids, and I gave him samples of ball powders, flake powders, stick powders, and then surprised him with black powder. He was like a little kid winning the Saturday afternoon prize at the candy store. He had known me for more than 10 years, and knew I was a shooter, but had no idea all I had in my house that would go " bang ".

I helped him certify a couple of bomb dogs that went to work in Las Vegas, Nevada, after that hotel bombing many years ago, now.

Now for the bad question. If you are transporting 25 or 50 lbs of bulk powder in your own vehicle, are you required to have the hazmat labels like the commercial vehicles?

Not sure but you may have to comply with the DOT regulations for the state of travel. Somehow this might all be spelled out in the exemptions of possession of BP for antique and replica firearms? Uncrichie
