Took the .45 flinter to the range this morning and used 1" dots for targets at 25yds to practice for small game...really makes you concentrate...only hit about half of them but most others were so close they would have been dead squirrels.

40* when I left for the range...hunting weather...a couple miles before I got there I passed a flock of turkeys foraging across a grass field...then a doe & grown yearling standing at the edge of the road waiting to cross.

Got to the range and had taken a couple dozen shots when I notice 5 does/yearlings starting to cross the range 150 yards out...had to hold up for fear of hitting them...they're so used to gunfire they think nothing of it.

Got home, am cleaning the rifle and my Daughter calls to say that three 6 point bucks just slowly ambled across their heavily wooded back yard.

Life is good !

I loaded my 54.down and practiced at 20 30 and 40 yards.Rabbit season opens tomorow.Lookin forward to finding some bunnies.Course ya all saw my first target in the new competition so Ill probably miss the first rabbit.

Lemme know when to come and I will load up the old Ford and head up for a visit! :blah:

Thanks y'all! Claude was holding out on the cake, but he came through in the end... :haha:

Well, I am sitting here stuffing my already portly face with a wonderful concoction. Chocolate covered popcorn. A local chocolatier makes it and it is wonderful! Yummy stuff here!

Not to worry Crowhop. If you are using a .54 to hunt for bunnies. Just hold a little low, now we don't want to shoot over them. If you happen to hit low the bouncing ball and rocks will anchor the bunnies in their tracks.
Lots of luck.
Fox

me and a friend years ago tried using clay birds set up in the snow standing by themself in the snow at various ranges....then we backed up bout 50 yards from the farest one and took turns with our open sited .22....the orange disc's showed up real good in the snow and knew when we hit one....had a blast seeing who was able to out shoot who....i clipped him by 1 disc more then he had..........bob
