Hey Guys, I am new to the forum, thanks for having me. I have this rifle up for sale and know ZERO about it. Let me know if I am off base on price. It is a pre-Dixie Works musket marked “Turner-Kirkland, Union City, Tenn. This is a beautiful Kentucky Style rifle which features a nice 40” octagon barrel chambered in .45 Cap & Ball, I think. The stock looks to be a rare blonde birch stock. It has brass fittings including a decorative patch box and case hardened lock and tang. The 40” barrel shows nearly perfect bluing. Barrel is marked “Made in Belgium”. Case colored lock features a fox engraving; Hammer and tang show beautiful colors as well. Stock is very good with signs of use; nicks and dings. No breaks or cracks. Original ramrod included. Brass crescent butt plate Is nice too! Call Tom if interested at 404-427-5275. Thanks for looking. $498.00

Hey Guys, up for sale today is an early Dixie Works musket marked “Turner-Kirkland, Union City, Tenn. You need your name and date on paper in the pics to post. I'm not the classified cops, but a moderator is coming right soon to tell you that.

Not sure what you mean? So, add a picture of a piece of paper with my name and the date on it?

Read the classified guidelines, #23 in particular!

You beat me. I'm a Turner Kirkland fan from way back- spent many a good evening reading his catalogs. Only met him once- a very nice gentleman.

I have this same style and type of rifle, only it is a .40 cal. and not a kit. A friend of mine had one, too, and it was a flint that he converted to percussion. Basically, it was my first rifle, obtained used, in the mid 1970's. As I understand it, they were available from DGW in the 1960's. The lock wore out on mine and I ordered a replacement, which was not an exact fit or lock, and I had to have it altered a bit.Surprised to see another example like this one.

I believe the rifles in .40 were slightly earlier than the ,45 These very early DGW brand rifles could now be considered collectors guns in their own right.

The price is about right. It's a Kirkland rifle pre-dixie and as stated the earlier ones were in .40 cal so I'd say that would be a late 50s or early 60s rifle.
I have a .40 that was made in 1956.

One of two things is going on here. Either the new user didn't read the posting rules (or even look at some of the current ads for ideas) or somebody copied some pictures from The Outdoors Trader and is hoping to find a sucker who will send him money. I don't presume to know which it might be.

The user name in the photo gives assurance that at least the poster was at some time in possession of the item. Reddit.com has a further requiremet: the paper must be crumpled, which makes it harder to Photoshop.

An unfortunate person once paid $600 for a revolver I had sold through gunauction. Somebody had taken my pictures from the auction and posted an ad on a different trading site, claiming to own the revolver.

As a kid I spent many hours going through those catalogs like they were a christmas wish book. Never got boring. I understand DGW has to change with the times but I do miss them.
Mr. Kirkland had a Duesenberg collection. Do they still have that or did they sell them all off?

If my memory is correct Turner called the barrel a "slim jim" in the catalog.
