To All,

I lucked out yesterday on getting some more pre-lubed roundball patches for my flintlocks. I was in Dick's Sporting Goods getting some new running shoes and checked out their black powder area to see if there might be something that I could use. Turns out that there were two racks of bags of .50 to .59 caliber .18 thickness pre-lubed pillow ticking roundball patches. Challenge was the items had no price. It took nearly a half an hour to get a price, but it was worth it. I left store with all the patches they had, easily enough to take care of my .50 and .54 caliber flintlocks for the next year, at only $4.00 per package of 100 patches. I should be in good shape now until the employee bought-out version of Ox-Yoke gets back on its feet. The rest of you may want to check out your local Dick's Sporting Goods as well and see if you might find the same thing. Time to go shooting now.

Best Regards,

That's outstanding...who's label were they marketed under...Oxyoke? TC? Traditions?
Was the lube the yellow "Wonderlube/Natural Lube" type?

(We have a few Dick's Sporting goods around here also)

How many patches did you get and what was the total cost?
You can make your own with pillow ticking from wally world. One yard will get you about 1,000 patches if you pre-cut them at 1 1/4 inches. You can also make your own lube pretty cheap (Stumpkillers moose milk).
Compare the costs. You can save making your own. Unless you don't want the hassle. I make all my own stuff and it's a blast...no pun intended.

Roundball,

They were the .18 T/C pillow ticking patches pre-lubed with NL 1000. I bought all they had of sizes .45-.50 and .54-.56. I had been using the Ox-Yoke brand before. I compared these T/C patches to the Ox-Yoke variety and couldn't find any difference. They were the same thickness, and looked and smelled the same. I know that Ox-Yoke was producing T/C's lube and patches along side their own brand, so this makes sense. I am going to do some shooting comparisons, but I believe that the performance should be similar. Recommend that you check out your local Dick's Sporting Goods and you may luck out as well. Yeah, I know that I could make my own pre-lubed patches. But quite frankly, I enjoy the shooting consistency that the standard sized pre-lubed patches provide.

Best Regards,

Maybe you misunderstood...I don't ever cut at the muzzle...I always use precut/prelubed patches...my favorite is TC's .018" prelubed pillow ticking...I wasn't aware Dick's carried them and am drooling to stop by a couple of their stores during the week to put some more back in my private stock
