Getting some things together to get ready to stain my Traditions Beech stock. Will be using a water based dark walnut stain and wonder if I should use a water based pre-stain conditioner before staining. Will it make a difference and/or reduce blotchiness or just skip it and apply the stain ? Thanks

Avoid any water based finishes. Do not use any "conditioner".

Beech stains best with dye stains. Leather dye may give a color you like. Hardware store stains will likely be disappointing.
