I live in an area where I cannot get number 11 percussion caps. I found this YouTube video showing how to make a prime adapter. Not historically accurate but at least I could still shoot. Any help would be appreciated

Interesting option, thanks.

My shooting mentor makes #11 caps out of old soda cans. They work just as well as factory made #11 caps, although they can't be used in a capper. There are kits online with the punch and priming solution, I think Dixie Gun Works sells one.

Anybody in Rhode Island I’d trade several hundred percussion caps for a like number of small or large pistol primers. I’ve got several thousand RWS 1075 plus. I’ve also got 11’s and 10’s but would have to check the stock as I traded 11/10’s for musket caps here in Florida but I’m not sure what I got up there in those. Returning to RI next week.

Now that's a skill right there, Deerstalkert. I've been chipping away at rocks for a while now, and when I actually knock something useable off a pebble I'm about as happy and proud as a man can be.

As for the caps, I recently ordered one of those tools, but a #10. Did I make an error there? (Most Italian repros come with nipples for #10 caps, from what I've read). I'm also thinking about buying some light gauge copper or brass to punch the caps from instead of aluminum. What d'ya think?

i have some copper sheet i use sometimes. the problem is if it is thicker than a aluminum can it causes a burr on the punch out, making it difficult to advance the material through the slit. can be done but slows down the process.
the process is slow anyway so it is not that big a deal.
one way to make stouter aluminum caps is to drive the punch half way, draw it back up, advance the aluminum and drive the punch all the way to the forming stage. this doubles up the cup and they are quite stout.
one side of the aluminum cans is treated with something that the primer doesn't like to stick to, cant remember which, inside or out.
i mix duco cement with acetone and there is no loose primer mix in the containers of caps that get shaken every time i open that drawer. which is often as my calipers live in the same drawer.

I've seen the primers on the shelf as opposed to the empty shelves where the caps used to be.But I never paid attention to to the price. Is this the "thrifty" route to take? But available does trump cheap.
