I have read posts here indicating that FFFG will work as a primer pan powder.

Will Pyrodex P or similar blackpowder substitute serve as a primer powder? Can the Pyrodex P be made to work if ground finer?

Pyrodex of any grade is no good in flintlocks, either for priming or the main charge. It has to high a flashpoint. If you plan to use a flintlock, then you better plan to use real black powder in it.

C'mon, you guys! Everybody knows that Pyrodex will work in a flintlock. All you gotta do is hold a propane torch to the vent!!! :shocking: :results:   :thumbsup:

Pyrodex or any other substitute will work just fine in the main charge if a primer charge of 15 to 20gr. is first dropped down the bore. This amount could vary, depending on the bore size. There has to be enough to cover the vent's location inside the barrel. In a .45, 5-10gr.3F might be all that's necessary depending on the shape of things inside - experimentation is needed here.
