Primitive powder measure

A while ago I took a small piece of elder from around were I live and put it in my pocket.
Whenever I was out with the kids and they played I sat down and whittled a little here and there as a pastime until it struck me trying to make a powder measure.

The only tool I used was my pocket knife and small sticks, I cut, to ream out the soft center and compress some of the white material at the bottom to form a plug. So this is really primitive.

Thanks for looking, Silex

Nice job, just like our elders would have made. :hatsoff:
But isn't elderberry wood a little too soft for an intensive use ?

Nice work. I am confident that in the good old days many powder measures were "hand made " with what ever was available.

Thank you for for the comments.

Yes, it's elderberry.
Statetrooper - I think time will tell.
The tube is pretty tight, so I hope that it is stable enough.

That'll work!__Nice job!
I have spent a few fishing trips sitting in the shade and scraping on one of my powder horns! __ Not to mention, that the fish where probably not biting and I just wanted to relax!

Rick

I can just imagine some long ago Longhunter lost his powder measure while out in the woods, and the next day he was holding a measure not unlike yours.

it can be humbling to be reminded that not everything has to be Milspec or perfect in any other sense. Thanks for this.
