So i live in the great state of the anti-goat (tourist call them pronghorn or antelope) any way i was wondering if any body has ever seen a powder horn made out of one of there horns. They are hollow and are shed every year. They might be on the thin side but I bet i could find one easier than any other kind of horn. If its possible might actually give me a reason to hunt one the stinky things. Just curious as its seems it should be a pretty plentiful source of horns but you never hear any talk about them.

If your not already huntin them, your missing out. I went out there in 88' and had a blast huntin those goats and loved ever bit of the meat too....

There has been one or two posted over the years that were made into priming horns if I remember right. Made a very unique horn.

The problem with your Prairie Goats in Wyoming, is that their uglier than ours here in Newbrasskey!

I made two over the years into small bag horns. Not my choice for a powder horn, but "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", they say!

If you want to make one! ... Go for it!

Rick :blah: :rotf: ....... Just "fun'n" with ya neighbour!

hmm i might have to see about giving it a try. I think it would work decent since they would be slimmer than a big round horn and not like a need a big one since its not like im going to be traveling across the prairie for months at a time. Ours may be uglier but your stink worse

You have to put the spout on the big end. You might try something like the one on this sheep horn or you could turn one from some hardwood.
Post a pic when your done.

This is what I did with one of the horns from this buck I found dead in my road side pasture. They make a fair priming horn.

that is actually very similar to the approach that i was thinking of taking. I think that it might work pretty good for a day horn since it would be a lot less bulky.

I have a pair also, And I was woundering if Native americans would used them for poweder horn or what. Nice work .

yeah thats nice looking you did a good job. I'm sure the Indians didnt waste much
