I took my oldest boy, Aaron 14 to a state hunters education class over the weekend. He needs the class to be able to hunt in this, and most all states. I had never lived or hunted in a state that required it so I took the class also.

The class lasted 2 days, 8 hours each. It included a written test and a practical test. He worked hard at studying the manual that they gave us when we signed up. The instructor informed us that any students under 18 that scored 100 on the written exam and passed the practical exam would be in the 100% club and be able to enter a special drawing for a 1 day fully guided cow elk hunt. The kids from last year all got an elk.

Well, my son got a 100 on his written and a 90 on the practical, :D :redthumb: each mistake was worth 10 points on the practical. The paperwork for the drawing went into the mail today. He learned a lot and had a good time. BTW there were only 5 kids that scored 100 out of about 30 in the class. 3 of them had perfect scores on both tests.

In a previous post I mentioned that I had purchaced a 54cal Bobcat. The gun finally arrived (a week late) on Sat. and I gave it to him that night. I need to do a little work on it as the hammer fit isn't quite right and the trigger is very heavy, but that is another post I put in later.

Just needed to brag a little, hope none of you mind.

Everyone have a great week.

Congratulations! Now you never have to look for a huntin buddy. I remember when my son passed his hunter ed.
Been huntin with me ever since, and got a 5x4 mulie last year.
This is the good stuff

Congratulations to you both. Good luck with the drawing.

My daughter never really professed any interest in hunting until she was in sixth grade. She lived with her mom then. One weekend when I went to pick her and her younger brother up for the weekend, she handed me an envelope containing her Hunters' Safety Course card and a SPORT patch. She had signed up for the class at school and took it during her activity period. That was the first indication I got that she wanted to hunt.

The most surprising thing was that a school actually taught hunter/trapper ed. (that was the class that included the hunters' safety course.)

I took the course in 7th grade, in school. A science teacher taught it. Of course, that was in '76-'77. Things have changed alot since then. I didn't know of any schools that still allowed anything to do with firearms in the school.
I took my son on a Friday night and Saturday all day for his Hunter Ed. In Illinois, anyone born after Jan. 1, 1980 MUST take the course to get a hunting license. It's a 10 hour course all together. My son was 11 and got a 92%.
Congrats to your son. GOOD JOB.

That"s great when you do things with your kids. It makes them just as happy as you. I am a Pa. hunter ed instructor and I also took the course with my daughter. We have a three day 17 hour course with 5 instructors and and around 40 young adults and adults. It is very gratifying when people thank you for having the class. Boon :peace:

I took a class with my younger son, and two of his friends. I ended up becoming an instructor in Indiana before moving to Illinois.
