Good Evening;
I have noticed several pairs of Pucker Toe Moccasins with a Red or Blue Wool piece behind the toes. Does this blanket piece cover the leather the moccasin pucker toe style is stitched to.
Does anyone have a good pattern for a pucker toe moccasin?
Thanks for the replys,
Don

JD the ones in your link are Creek,Mikasuki, seminole style, not traditional "Pucker toe" styles like Ojibwa or Michiganian, Cree styles.
There is no extra piece added to the front of the foot.
The wool insert is stitched over the buckedskin flap for the over toes for "pucker toes".

Yeah, you're right. Had a brain fart there. :idunno:

I'm no expert on mocs, but it's my understanding that the same general style of center seam mocs was used throughout the Eastern woodlands. I have seen photos of very similar mocs attributed to several Northern and Northeastern tribes.

Spotted Bull,

Based on what little research I have done, the moc pattern with the notch in the toe is a 1950's carryover made by someone who wanted a pair of mocs, but didn't know how to stitch them properly.

IMHO, the pattern on the Southern Indian Dept page is far more historically accurate pattern, and a much more comfortable to wear.

God bless
