If this is in the wrong place, please forgive me & move it to where it needs to be. I've been trying to find some history behind why they put a map on their horn. Not having much luck & hoping y'all could point me in the right direction. I'd like to make one myself of my place & add to it as I make discoveries & take game. Thanks for any help you can give me!

Art for arts sake. Some may have been put on to show where they were, some just as a handy map. Maps were pretty and having one that shows all the area around you nice.
I think most were trophies of travels, or maps on how to get to where your going.

I especially like the Colonial powder horn maps that show important trade routes of the day - I would think they came in handy along the trail.

Guys, Glad you started the topic and loved the examples. Beautiful workmanship! It gives me ideas for a project for next winter (and time to practice). It would be neat to do a horn showing the island where I grew up.
