I have a 10x10 pyramid tent with two doors from Panther. I didn't have a stove pipe hole added but would like to add a stove. Curious if anyone runs a stove pipe through a door? Would it get too hot for the canvas resting on the pipe? Thanks for the feedback.

Uh yup. Stove pipe runs 650-up degrees with a good fire. Canvas smolders by 450. Not good. :shake: Best get a stove pipe adapter put in your tent.

you'll need to have a "stove jack" sewn in. Davis tent and awning down Denver way can set you up.

I don't know anything about this- what is a stove jack? I different type of fabric? Metal? If you had a wedge or wall tent with doors front and back- could such a devise be put between the back door flaps?

only problem is the barrel stoves i've used were designed to vent vertically, the pipe connections are loose and any change in direction will cause smoke to back up in the pipe and enter the tent.

A stove jack is a (typically 16-18 inches or so square) panel of flame proof material (often a mil-spec silicone fabric) with a hard silicone sleeve to fit the desired stove pipe size. A section is cut out of the tent and the jack panel is sewn in it's place. Since the pipe fit is not perfect, a stone jack will allow some leaks if installed in a roof or sloping wall. They keep the hot stovepipe a safe distance from the flammable tent fabric. You generally find them in the end wall of a wall tent or side of a marque.

Or even a large wedge...

Looks like a nice setup I have a similar one stove opening on the side ,as well.Never had a stove in,yet tried this fall, tho.
It was quite windy and the pipes kept pulling apart, to the point of exasperation.Thank the lord for warm blankets and hot company!!
Am I missing something about putting the pipes up (using friction fit, now) ?

fence post and a long piece of conduit from home depot. wire it all together with some tie wire and make sure that fence post is in good. tents burn like tender once they get lit up

tough to put in fence post when the gound is frozen, and you don't want to be carrying one..

put in a few sheet metal screws towards the end of each pipe section, don't turn them in all the way, then short bits of wire wrap from screw on one section to screw on the next and hold it together, if that makes sense

can be tough when your hands are numb so there are some alternative ideas out there..also keep the wire wrapped permanently on one of the pair of screws, if you drop it in the snow it's gone....check out the wintertrekker forum for more

depending on, it can also be a good idea to cut a few poles and improvise scissor poles with some wire to support the stove pipe on the exterior

try and pitch out of the wind

good luck..

Thanx all will try the wire method seems the most secure have a brace for outside .some of the places we have to setup in a field rendevous, otherwise I would setup to the leeward side.

one drawback with the method i didn't mention...if you put your stove pipes inside the stove for packing it can get a little bit tangley in there...depends on your set up and how much room you have in the stove..

not the end of the world, just something to consider when you are coming up with your system
good luck..
