I'm new to pistol shooting. What is the down side to using Pyrodex RS instead of Pyrodex P in a Crockett 32 cal pistol?
Thanks
Dennis

The 'down' side is reduced velocity and energy both at the muzzle and on target. Some will claim reduced accuracy in terms of group size, although I've not experienced that myself.

I would not use the adjective 'far' when describing the differences. I think they're actually fairly small. Measurable, but small.

I forgot to welcome you to the Forum so here's a welcome.
from what I've read some target shooters have tighter groups with the 'P' grade or 3F BP due to less variation in velocity evidently.
myself I don't compete with my BP guns but my revolvers I do get tighter groups useing Pyro over BP. I have no idea why this is except a guess that it may be due to better compression of the powder charge. seems an equal charge of pyro also has a bit more power to it also. the finer grain will also light off quicker and burn quicker.
2F is mostly 'musket' powder or for the larger bores.
