QLD stands for Queensland. I would guess this pistol was sent to Australia at some time in it's life.

It must mean something else ,Queensland was part of NEW SOUTH WALES way before it became a colony in its own right ,Wrong era for it to belong to the colony of Queensland (Victorian era )

Not necessarily phil,, the pistol could have been stamped then shipped or regulated to Queensland anytime during it's own history.
The pistol itself could have been in military storage for decades before someone decided to send them to the "colonies" as part of armament for some reason.
Our own USA history has examples,
1,000's of Potsdam 1830's conversion muskets came stateside for the Civil War and received Regiment stamping's when they got here.

Rubbish ! this is where I LIVE AND I KNOW MY LOCAL HISTORY ! it most likely means Queens Light Dragoons.

Hi,
It may indicate the 16th light dragoon regiment of the British army. They were known as the Queen's Light Dragoons. The queen was Queen Charlotte during the 18th century.
