Good evening folks:

I am not new to knives but am new to axes/tomahawks. I have a wax wood staff that I would love to put a tomahawk head on, similar to the spiked heads. However, I just don't where to get them. I don't want a pricy custom but something that I can actually use if I had to while hiking/hunting.

Thanks!

Well waxwood is good stuff, but many of the inexpensive and functional 'hawk heads out there have an opening for the handle, called the "eye" that is teardrop shaped, and most waxwood products you find are round. So you may have trouble fitting it to a 'hawk head.

You can find them from Track of the Wolf , or Crazy Crow, and some of the folks might be able to recommend a 'hawk head that uses a round handle so you can use the waxwood.

Interesting. I do woodworking but never heard of waxwood.
I suppose you can whittle your staff to fit a teardrop hawk. If the wood is stout should work.
But, for hiking/hunting, I do not reccomend a spike hawk. Carried wrong or in a fall that spike can injure or kill you. It is intended for Redcoats and injuns, not yerself. :shocked2:
Also, keep in mind, if you put a nice handle on a hawk, the first time you throw it at a block and others are throwing also, they will hit yer handle immediately and ruin it. Some Darwin candidates think that is funny. My rule is to never, ever, never-ever (again  ) put a fancy handle on a throwing hawk.

Thanks guys, good info. Yep I found it and you are right about the waxwood, it is round and I will need to shape it a bit. I do a lot of wood working so that won't be an issue.

Thanks!!
