I am 18 and i had bought a traditions kentucky flintlock pistol kit online. I was told recently by my friend's dad that washington law doesn't allow any one under the age of 21 to own a pistol. But he said that he believed that it may be differentfor a flintlock? Any oneknow if this is true, or do i need to give it up for a few years?

Call the NRA in Washington DC ( actually I think they are now in Virginia)- they'll have the answer for you.

Muzzleloaders aren't classified as firearms so I think you're o.k., but you better check the laws to be sure.

Muzzleloaders are not considered firearms by the Federal government, but many state governments do not honor that position. It is mandatory that the OP contact either the NRA or other authority familiar with the laws of the state in which he lives.

mykeal is correct.
Each State sets up their own laws concerning not only what ages are required to own and/or possess a firearm but what actually is considered a firearm.

In Arizona for instance the State says a single shot Flintlock pistol is classified the same as a .44 Magnum revolver or a Glock semi-auto pistol.

While some States limit the legal age for ownership of firearms many have additional laws which allow possession of the firearms by underage persons when in the company of an adult.
In other words, even though Mecharius may be too young to own the gun, one of his parents could be the (temporary) "owner" and he could use it in the presence of another adult.

Check with the NRA or the State Attorney's office.

Washington law on M/L's is a bit strange and somewhat unclear. They are considered "firearms" as far as anyone not able to own a modern firearm cannot own a muzzleloader. This also includes convictions for fourth degree assault, domestic violence, and if a judge pulls your firearms rights regarding a no contact order. You can have Muzzleloaders shipped to you via mail order with no problem. Same with black powder. However all bets are off when it comes to the cess pool known as Seattle (aka. Mayor Nichols private empire and super green society.)

The damn shame is they will hassle an 18 year old over a muzzle loader, but he can enlist in the Army and they'll give him a M-16 :shake: :youcrazy: .

Revised Code of Washington Definition of Dangerous weapons.

Read up and contact your local Law Enforcement to see if they can give you an interpretation. I think you will find it depends on the jurisdictions interpretation. Subsection 8 is of interest.

(8) "Antique firearm" means a firearm or replica of a firearm not designed or redesigned for using rim fire or conventional center fire ignition with fixed ammunition and manufactured in or before 1898, including any matchlock, flintlock, percussion cap, or similar type of ignition system and also any firearm using fixed ammunition manufactured in or before 1898, for which ammunition is no longer manufactured in the United States and is not readily available in the ordinary channels of commercial trade.
