Kinda random on the title. Anyway.

I have a new(to me) CVA 12ga SxS thanks to poker on here! Finally getting around to seeing what I have from my other blackpowders will cross over, and I came across some issues with the caps I have. I have several tins of CCI #10s I bought a few years ago when I couldn't find anything, and a couple tons of Remington #11s. Both of them fit very loose. I think they could be pinched and be fine, but I don't know that I trust that fully for a long walk pheasant or quail hunting. Is there any other options there? I have a brand new set of #11 nipples and they are loose on those also.

Ok enough on that one. Second question. I noticed when I was checked threads on the ramrod that it looks like at some point someone may have broke a cleaning jag or something off in it. I got about 1/8" of threads or less before it hits solid. Looks like steel. I'm leaning towards replacing the whole end on it. Also probably gonna buy a delrin one to use for hunting, keep this one nice for the safe.

Thank in advance y'all!

Check to see if the tip has a cross pin to keep it on the ramrod, even if it is the same material a close examination should find it if it is there, if so you will need to drill or punch it out.

If there is no pin or if there is and you can remove it, apply a heat gun to the tip and whatever glue that is holding the tip on will weaken enough to remove it, even if it is epoxy. A propane torch is to hot. Then you can figure out if you can get the broken off piece out or need to replace the whole tip.

I use a synthetic rod for the field on my Pedersoli SxS. I was rabbit hunting and didn't notice that the rod had slid forward about 8", snagged it on a bush and snap. Mine is nylon I think. It's a little flexible, so that IF it comes lose again It doesn't stress the rod or the ramrod thimbles if I get it hung up on something.

Yes I can see where the pin runs through. That's my plan later this week to drill it out and remove the end. I was gonna try to easy out it at work if our garage guys have one small enough. I think I can get it in the mill and not have to worry about it walking too much.

I'm not sure what brand of nipples you have, but they sound like the cone is too small. I would try some Ampco nipples.

As far as the ramrod, you could try to get the broken piece out with a small left hand drill bit or just replace the end.
I've been reading about those. The ones I have new in my kit are traditions. They measure .167 at the base and .153 at the tip. Both style of cap are showing right around .165. Hopefully I can find a nipple pretty close to that.

Got the crap out of the ramrod. Turns out it was plastic. Somebody must've used a cheap cleaning tool or something and broke it off. Anyway some ez outs, a little heat and a tap had it good to go again.

As far as the nipples go. I think I'm gonna order the hotshot nipples and see how they do.
