Is there anyway to make Crisco so it wont freeze? I was thinking about melting some Crisco and adding some melted Mink Oil maybe. I dont know. Any ideas?

I tryed it for patch lube years back along with other stuff, never mixed it with anything tho. I discovered Go-jo white hand cleaner. works for me.
I use a 50-50 mix of toilet ring and Mink oil for lubing conicals.

I mix crisco, olive oil and bee's wax equal parts and add a dash of murphy oil soap. Why murphy's ?cause it smells :rotf:
But I tried my blend, gojo, bore butter, and others that I tried mixing up. I put them in the freezer to test. Gojo and my blend did not freeze.some others did get stiff and some were frozen. But I like plain olive oil and gojo also. I made up about two cups of my blended stuff. So will be awhile til I try a new blend. It works good for patch lube for roundball.Good luck to you.

I'm going to try the Moose Snot recipe found over in the links section. I like the Crisco idea just because it is so inexpensive. My store has lard for sale too and I wonder if that would be better than Crisco?

Just be sure the ingredient label says sodium=0.

I've tried both Crisco and lard at the range. Both seem to work well, but a bit messy. Personally, for patch lube I like a mixture of Ballistol and water.

Rightnow, Im really liking Mink Oil. Im just always trying something new and was wondering how crisco doese in cold weather.

I've always used t/c's wonderlube, but it seems to me that when I coat the inside of the barrel after cleaning the next time I use it the cleaning patch is rusty. Does Crisco contain salt is my question I guess.

Just out of curiosity,I was wondering about mixing glycerin with crisco or anything else for that matter? I don't know, the trappers of today use it i know for keeping dirt from freezing up their traps when trapping fox and coyotes. Just a thought.

I made some deer tallow a couple of days ago and it seems to have a high melting temp. I'm going to probably add crisco to keep it softer as one of my several experiments. I'll also try Olive Oil and then coconut oil.

That's the stuff. It works great in one of my Hawken rifles for winter hunts. Have never had any problems with it.

Ingredients

SOYBEAN OIL, FULLY HYDROGENATED COTTONSEED OIL, PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED COTTONSEED AND SOYBEAN OILS, MONO AND DIGLYCERIDES, TBHQ AND CITRIC ACID (ANTIOXIDANTS).

Will the citric acid be an issue?

It hasn't been so far in my rifle. My spit is probably more acidic than the small amount you may find in Crisco.

Here is a link to the Crisco website: Crisco Ingredients

Just to be sure I sent them a question asking about salt content.

Crisco CALLED me this afternoon and said it definitely does not have salt in it. If it did they said the Sodium level would not be 0.

I can't believe the called me the same day I emailed them. :hatsoff:

Couldn't be any more acidic than say "Stale Urine". :rotf:

You made me go back and look at my wifes crisco container that I have been getting squeezins for my gun lube from. IT HAS 0 Sodium.
