I also shoot C&B revolvers and make paper cartridges for them, my question is has anyone tried making shot cups out of nitrated paper such as coffee filters??? Fairly durable paper and would / should disappear before disrupting the shot pattern... The reason I ask is I have my first smoothbore coming in a couple of months and I'm curious if it's been tried...

Thanks

Yep. Quite a few threads discussing nitrated paper particularly coffee filters. Put "nitrated paper" into the search function above and you'll find it all.

Not sure if you've seen my tutorial on making pre-made shotcups/cartridges.
I have been saving some coffee filters I've been using to filter water with the intent of trying them as shot cups. The paper seems very durable yet easy to work with and I think will hold a crease and a twist without tearing as easily as brown bag paper does.

Actually I did see it and that was what got me to thinking about it... BTW Good job on the tutorial, and I use nitrated coffee filters for my pistol cartridges... Very little residue and durability is good... I have my first flintlock smoothbore coming and so it will be a couple of months before I get the opportunity to try it myself so I was kinda hoping some one may have tried it already... Looking through the searches didn't show any results for shot cups though there was a fount of other useful tips... I ended up with a stack of 60 cupper commercial sized coffee filters so I have enough to make several hundred pistol carts and thought maybe it would also work for a Brown Bess style load...

Thanks,
Alex

I don't drink coffee so I don't have coffee filters. But I do read so I make my shot cartridges out of newspaper. I roll three thickness around a dowel rod. (.625 for twelve gauge) tie one end shut with kite string, fill then twist and fold over and tie shut..
