Looking for a side lock rifle in 45 cal to hunt squirrels and deer. Any suggestion on a reliable rifle? I thouht about a 45 cal so I can kill two birds with one stone.

You can hunt squirrels with a .50 too, if you have a tame load. Going to .50 will give you a lot more options in rifles - the Lyman Great Plains Rifle (GPR) in .50 would be a very good starting point for a caplock. Since .50 is the most commonly used muzzleloading caliber, it is also easiest to find supplies for it.

People just have to learn to look beyond Walmart for their muzzleloading supplies.

ML supplies are available easily in all calibers...just make a free phone call to any one of many ML suppliers and whatever is needed will be on the front porch a couple days later...no pain, no strain
