Ramrod tip(8/32 or 10/32)

Putting a new ramrod tip on a ramrod I have, question,threaded 8/32 or 10/32 and why one over the other or does it even matter? it is for a flintlock custom rifle I had built, 50 caliber...thanks for the input

8/32 threads are smaller and 10/32 threads might not be as apt to pull out. To me the main concern, is having the ramrod ends glued and pinned from north and south and from east end west.

I only use brass range rods and brass rods for hunting, not PC/HC, but I do not care.

I like the 10/32 its a little beefer and that will come in handy if ya get a ramrod stuck. I've had a 8/32 strip out on me.

Given a choice 8/32 on small calibers and 10/32 on 45 and larger calibers.

I am mainly a pistol shooter, but for rifles it would be 10/32.

I tend to put a brass end on both ends of my ramrods with one in 8-32 and the other end in 10-32. It always seems to happen when I am shooting that someone needs to pull a ball or borrow a ramrod tip but they don't have the correct sized screw tip.

I does like Many Klatch have one on each end,
But if I had to make a choice go with 10-32 it's stronger.
I just got a 10-32 end for the 5/16 rod for my .40.
And get attachments with a steel threaded section not brass,
By all means the fixture itself should be brass but the threads should be steel.

I don`t think it matters much one way or another but I do want all my rods threaded the same so I don`t have to worry about which accessories fit which rod. All mine are 8/32 but only because back when I got started I ended up with 8/32 accessories. If I were doing it again I`d probably use 10/32 because I do think that being bigger probably makes 10/32 stuff alittle stronger. I`ve never had a problem with breaking anything in 8/32 either though.

On the LRs I sell, if both ends of the RR have brass fittings it's #8-32 on one end and #10-32 on the other. If the RR has only one fitting or if it's a RR for a Hawken, then it's #10-32.....Fred

I started out with 8-32 acesseries, and never had a problem. The theroy is you can allways run a 10-32 tap into a sripped ramrod end. But if you start out with 10-32, if it strips, your done. I still never strpped a end after 20 pluss years. I allways used jags and other hardware with steel stub screws. The bigie is the ramrod tip must be cross pinned to the rod. I do have a adapter for 10-32 acesseries, should any creep into my stuff. BJH
