I would like to see how you organize your BP stuff for a range trip.
I shoot flint rifle and smooth bore,
Percussion rifle and revolver.
Seems like it’s always a scramble to be sure I have everything I need and I get to the range and need something I failed to bring.
Do you take your shooting bag to the range or do you have everything you need in a box?
Thinking I need 2 boxes, one for flint and another for percussion?
Pictures please?
Thanks, TG

I use a wood range box with the normal things needed for a day at the range for pistols.

In addition, I have two (2) small plastic containers with folding lids. One box is set up to shoot percussion pistols and revolvers, it has everything in it needed. The other box is set up for flintlock pistols, again everything needed is there.

For long road trips, I have a four page list of things needed to shoot both style of pistols.

What about powder? ea style might require different powders? Also is the powder already in the box or do you add powder when ready to go shoot? Do you have it in a can with spout in the box?
Wry helpful, thanks for the help

First of all: Have a list of what is needed for each of your muzzleloaders!
I have one main shooting box, and that is for my primary gun. If I have other guns then I will add another box for particulars. A lot of what is in the primary will work for other guns but not always. The main one will contain: Powder, powder flask, priming powder flask, safety glasses, screwdriver, pliers, notebook, pencil, black sharpie, cleaning patches, oil, staple gun, .495 round balls, flints, flint leather, TH pick, starter, patches, ball puller, fouling scraper, jag, powder measure, flint napping hammer. This is just for a 50 cal flintlock. As you know, if you change to percussion or different cal then equipment needs to be adjusted. A different RB size maybe, patches, percussion caps, nipple wrench and RR ends that are applicable. I also bring a period correct 5 gallon plastic bucket for paper towel, drinking water, hand soap, bug spray, extra powder, and my hearing protection muffs. A permanent kept check list is really your salvation for having essential shooting items. When I was young and dumb, went to a two day out of town shoot. Half way through the shoot went to the van to get my 45 percussion pistol.............left it at home. 😂

Got it , thanks for all the good information. I used to shoot my trade gun mostly. Then added a 36 cal 51 navy, then 1861 Colt Signature Springfield 58 cal and now just added a 50 cal flint Tennessee rifle. I will be starting my list now.
Like that box. nice

I shoot a lot of different guns, smoothbore, rifles, single shot pistols and revolvers, flint and percussion. And I hate getting to the range without something. I have one of the semi-large MTM boxes that stays in the car with my bag and an assortment of powder containers, caps, flints, various balls, patches, eyes and ears, etc., etc. I just add guns and range rods and I am good to go, mostly.

Those that can be organized for anything that can be useful in one box have my admiration. Old-timey tackle boxes (aluminum "Umco") work best for me but they're getting harder to find. Regardless of how I plan and pack, the thing I need will have been left at home.

I take a slightly different approach. I have a range box for general extra supplies and cleaning solvent. I have a shooting bag for each gun with things particular to that gun. This way I only need one box and if I want to shoot a Primitive match or go hunting it is not a shock to my system

After reading here I've gone to loading out of the bag, keeping all the black BP Gear, in an old wood box, have the bag set as I will for participating in range shoot, trail walks or hunting. My always used motto keep it simple.

I'm kind of still into it. It's been a long process. The garage is pretty much off limits in the winter and in the peak of summer. I'm also stuck on some design features but I'm working them out little by little.

It's actually further along then this, I just can't find the pictures right now.

If I don't keep everything together in one place I'll surely get to the range and find I forgot something, so I compartmentalize. Pretty much all my black powder needs are kept in this Craftsman toolbox. The 3 levels work well to store it all so that I can grab what I need easily.

I have an ammo can that holds extra powder and lead balls, and I keep a pack of targets in my vehicle all the time. So when shooting black powder all I have to grab is the gun or guns I intend to shoot, the toolbox and the ammo box. Even I can remember that much.

Looks like its going to be a nice box 👍

I use GI .30 cal ammo cans. One for the .32 and .36 cals. One for the .50 and .54 cals. One for the .45 cals. One for the .44 cal revolvers and one for the .36 cal revolver. One for the Enfield and one for shotgun stuff. These are all percussion guns. One box for the flintlocks. Keeps everything together except for the powder that is kept separately. A small tool kit is kept in a range bag. All I have to do is pick up the right box for what is being shot that day. Works for me.

As others have said, I now have to rely on a checklist I keep taped to the wall when I head to the range.

I have a simple tacklebox for my range box. I use MTM Case-Gard boxes for my ammunition, which generally I carry separately as it won't fit in my range box. My revolver and smoothbore ammo will though.

Sometimes when I go to the range I feel like I'm packing for a trip! :)
