Range for 50 cal.

I was wondering what the effective range is for the average 50 cal. percussion rifle. I'm going to be using it to hunt whitetail deer and I want to make sure that my setups put the deer within range. I will be using patched round balls. Tony

From a 50 yard zero with 80gr FFg, I shoot about 6 1/2 in. low at 100. I shot a deer at 125 yards paced off a number of years ago and dropped it like a ton of bricks, solid heart shot and lots of luck. Hope this helps. Take care, Rick.
