Tested the .62cal GM Flint smoothbore barrel this morning that I had jug choked to Improved Cylinder PLUS...got the sights elevation adjusted...tried several different configurations of powder, wads, and shot...the barrel is outstanding throwing excellent even patterns at the 25 yards I tested it.

SKEET TYPE LOAD #8’s
80grns Goex 3F
One Oxyoke wonderwad
1oz hard #8’s
Circle Fly OS card

CROW / TURKEY TYPE LOAD
80grns Goex 3F
One Oxyoke wonderwad
1+3/8oz chilled #6’s
Circle Fly OS card

Will settle on a dove load tomorrow but based upon the results with 6’s and 8’, it’ll be:

80grns Goex 3F
One Oxyoke Wonderwad
1+1/8oz or 1+1/4 oz hard #7.5s
Circle Fly OS card

NOTE: The "Jug Choke Learning Curve" continues...adding MORE wads TIGHTENS the pattern...just the opposite from what normally happens when adding wads to a cylinder bore ML.

1 wad is the most open, 2 wads tighten it up some, and 3 wads tighten it up even more.

My conclusion is as the additional wads make a longer wad column, the entry into the Jug Choke expansion chamber is sealed for a longer period of time...less blow by as the shot colume moves through the expansion chamber, etc...dunno for sure.

Just back from the range...DOVE LOAD IS:

80grns Goex 3F
One Oxyoke Wonderwad
1+1/4 oz hard #7.5s
Circle Fly OS card

Good 36" pattern at 28 yards...

That reminds me! I have to go back to working on a good dove load using steel! Most of the Dove management areas are also waterfowl ares here. No lead allowed.
