05/04/07 - Range Report .40cal “Muzzleloader Originals” brand patches, from Southern Bloomer in Bristol, Tenn.

40grns Goex 3F
.015” precut / prelubed patches from Muzzleloader Originals
.395 cast lead balls from Eddie May, GA.

Fired patches from this morning’s range session”¦Top ones = fire side, bottom ones = ball side.

Above average humidity this morning, ran 50 shots without wiping the bore between shots.
Accuracy was no different than if I was using Oxyoke Originals.

Lookin good. What is the lube?
Don't know but every indication is that it's Wonder Lube 1000 / Natural Lube 1000 by another name and without the wintergreen scent

BILL: do they a web site yet?
Google shows an empty shell has been established but, nothing in it yet...I just just Call Southern Bloomer in Bristol, Tenn, speak to "Winifred" and tell her what I'm interested in.

I forgot to mention that the point of this is the price...it's half what a bag of Oxyoke's cost...the bags of prelubed .40cal .015" patches was only $3.16 / 100...just got back from shooting another 50 this morning.

I also got some bags of .60-.69cal prelubed .018" pillow ticking and they seem identical to the Oxyokes I'd bought last fall...again, about half what the Oxyokes cost.

PS: Both patches mic'ed true and consistent

GREAT!!! NOW YOU'VE DONE IT!!! Shot 50 first day then went out and shot 50 more. Now you have to buy another pack at $3.16. :rotf: :youcrazy:

Thanks for posting the info. Thats what is a good thiong about this forum, information from shooters. I see that you are one of them that uses a powder charge to match your bore size when plinking. thats what I do with my .50 cal. I use 50 grs. 3F. and 72 grs hunting load.

(at that price I bought a couple thousand .40cal)

Am looking to order some here shortly. Thanks for the tip. Much better price than any I have seen.

I found this during my search...Is this the same company? they have patches in different quantities listed.

Southern Bloomer has that rudimentary website up with mostly cleaning patches which I've used for years, and not long ago added a bag or two of shooting patches made from left over scrap material I think...their cleaning patches are excellent, but I wasn't too impressed with the shooting patches although they did work the couple of range trips I used them for plinking.

"Muzzleloader Originals" is somehow affilliated with Southern Bloomer and seems to have established a very good line of shooting patches...they don't have a product listing on a website yet but Southern Bloomer mailed me the product list of patches & wads with prices, both lubed and unlubed.

The ones I referenced in my range report are from Muzzleloader Originals....but you need to call Southern Bloomer to order them. (at least for now)
