"Failure is the opportunity to begin again with more intelligence."
~ Henry Ford
How aptly put.
After several months of regular shooting I am FINALLY getting the consistancy that have been looking for. Primarily I have been trying to develop a certain type of hunting round. In this case I am shooting a .50 cal 26" green mountian barrel w/ a 1 in 28 twist.
Today at LONG last I got groups.....3/4 " grps at 25 yards and 2" at 100 yards.
I ended up filling about 1/3 of my front sight off (and added a spot of white fingernail polish for effect) Shooting a 460 gr Hornady HBFP over a .54 cal ox-yoke felt wad and 100 grains of Pyrodex RS. (Nipple STILL not burt out  ) Useing RWS musket caps also.
Recoil VERY manageable. Dug a few of the slugs outta the sand bank and DAM! They look like a cut-in-half golf ball's. Should be very devestating. THESE bullets have a ballistic Coeffecient of .230 which aint bad and enough weight to retain over 1300 FPE at 150 yards (well beyond MY ability with the open sights.)
All in all I am pleased, FINALLY!
PRB's MUCH easier but I got a special barrel comming for those; Hope to have it in posession in the next week or two.
Finally JUST as I found THE bullet; Hornady discontines them! Gotta try to get a close replica OR have a "custom" mold built.... :hmm:
