Anyone know where I can buy some? Prefer Eastern side of the sate, as it is closer to me.

Thanks

Bass Pro and Cabela's still sell over the counter (at some stores) but, the they are pretty proud of their stock given what they charge. Your best bet is mail order, Powder Inc. and others, check the resource area of this forum. I have had to mail order powder for almost two years now - I buy in bulk so I don't have to worry about re-upping for a while.

If you buy in smaller lots Powder Inc. and Grafs.com are good sources. I just ordered a 10 pound lot from Grafs for a few bucks less than Powder Inc.

The cheapest place I have found over the counter powder for is the Sportsmans wearhouse.

If you will check the link here for Goex, you will get a map of the USA and a name for the distributor that provides BP to your state. A phone number, and sometimes an email address is also provided. Call the Distributor and he will tell you where your nearest retailor is. 7One retailor I got an email from out west told me that if he could not find a local retailor for my cousin, he would arrange to ship the powder he wanted to him direct. I can't say that this will happen with every distributor, but you have to believe that these guys are being hurt most of all because of these Federal Homeland Security Regulations. They need to sell powder to stay in business. Also, contact local BP gun clubs. You can get a list from the NMLRA. They publish a list of Charter NMLRA clubs in all states a couple of times a year in Muzzle Blasts. Many clubs, like mine, make a yearly " buy " of powder for members so that they can get the powder at the maximum discount by buying in volume, and then distributing the powder to the members who have ordered it.

There is a gun shop in Madison that sells Goex. The name escapes me at this moment :hmm: , but I bought some there this Spring.

When I get the name I'll post it.

HD,

Do you buy goex or the grafs private label. If it is their brand, how does it compare to goex?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Take care,

I only buy Goex.
Search for Grafs powder here on the forum and you will find reports on it.
I think overall folks like their powder. I believe it's Scheutzen powder with a Grafs label.

Olson's Gun Shop in Green Bay still sells Black Powder over the counter. Not sure of address - they recently relocated from Lime Kiln road.

I guess some of the Sportsman's Warehouses carry regular black powder. A new SMW just opened near here in the last 60 days. On my first trip in there I asked about black powder. They pointed to the Pyrodex, 777, the usual, after several back and forth Q&A with me convincing them that those were not the products I was looking for and there was "real black powder" (something that these sales people apparently had never seen) out there, the admitted they didn't have any - at that store at least. I suggest before you drive to any of these larger retail outlets that are supposed to have everything, top buy Goex or any other black powder, call ahead first.

Discount house sporting goods clerks and managers don't know the difference between Black Powder, and mice feces! Contact the Goex distributer for your state of interest, and he will tell you where the nearest retailer is that stocks black powder. I can not emphasize enough that you are mostly wasting your time driving around from store to store trying to find Black Powder. And phone calls to retailers won't produce much better results. Find other Black Powder shooters at the range, or gun club, and ask them where they get their powder. If anyone is going to know a local source, it will be more experienced BP shooters in your area.

Don't belong to a BP club, or the NMLRA, or NRA? Shame on you. The reason we don't have powder readily available is that there was no one big enough to speak loud enough for us to keep this from happening. If you join these organization, our voices will be heard. The politicians know that that NRA, for instance, can sway more an 12 million votes in a national election, with 4.5 million members, and their families. The NRA guys screwed up, and didn't protest the change in regulations, fearing a backlash against them for being soft on " terrorists". Someone has to wake them up! Lots of our voices, as members will be heard. But one or two voices are ignorred just as they are by the politicians themselves. You might also consider joining GOA, and the Second Amendment Foundation, both of whom have been putting the heat on the boys at the NRA to go to bat for causes the NRA folks think they can't win.

I just started with a flinter and had a similar problem looking for powder in Wisconsin. The GoEx Website lists a dealer in Onalaska, but they do not sell powder anymore. I tried Olsen's in Green Bay as well but the person I spoke to on the telephone said they only sold substitutes - no actual powder.

I ended up going to Shooters Sports Center in Racine. They had 2f, 3f and 4f at around $13/pound. You have to pick it up in person - they won't ship.

Not sure about Madison, but if there's a dealer there I'd appreciate the name as that would be closer to me than Racine.

Superior Shooters Supply in Superior, Wisconsin carries it over the counter at a decent price if you ever get up that way.
