I have finished the rebuild on my TC Hawkens, thought you all would like to see some photos. The only original parts left are the Stock, Triggers, Tang, and Patch box. The only reason the latter is original is because I could not find a iron aftermarket one. The barrel is a GM 1:28 twist shallow groove barrel, this is my primary hunting gun, and I wanted to shoot the Hornaday 385gr great plains bullet. I hope it will shoot good. It has a Lyman 17A front site with an aftermarket crosshair insert, and a Thompson Center tang mount peep site in the rear. I have stripped all the iron parts of the original bluing and rust browned them with LMF soulution. I thought about replacing the stock with a Maple stock, but I just could not get rid of this walnut stock, as you can see I was very lucky when TC sent me this kit some 15 years ago. Hope you enjoy

That really is a beautiful looking rifle. I have the same rifle in a flintlock and although it is a great looking rifle, I was not blessed with that quality of wood.

Nice job!! Also keep us posted as to how well the Green Mountain 1:28 twist barrel shoots for you. I have been thinking of getting one of them for my rifle..

thats a nice peice of wood. looks great. I hope Bob1961 gets to see this, He may pee himself. Nice job.

Real Nice
You have a lot of love and effort into this project . Fantastic piece of wood , may you enjoy the hunt as much as the preparation . Good luck

Maybe this is the place to put this post.

I have a T/C PA Hunter (flinter) that I'd like to update - that is - make it look a little more like something that might actually have existed.

I'd like to start by restocking in a fancy maple (like bob1961's) and get rid of the cheezy trigger guard. Mine's an earlier model with the 31" oct-to-round barrel.

Does anyone know if that barrel will fit (read drop-in) a replacement half-stock for the T/C hawken like TOW or others sell?

Hud, That is a real fine job there. Hope she shoots straight for you.

Finnwolf,
I don't know if I can ever get pictures of a T/C flinter I re-did for my brother-in-law but he won a beautiful Fajen curley maple stock in a raffle. I replaced the buttplate with an authentic iron Hawken one, made the toe plate, replaced the trigger guard with a Hawken style iron one, replaced the nose-cap with an authentic pewter one and iron thimble, made new iron pipes and silver soldered them to the rib, filled in the screw holes and cut a dovetail for a proper fixed rear sight, replaced the front sight with a homemade silver blade and browned the whole mess. Oh yeah, I covered up the patchbox inlet with a nice iron oval inletted and nailed in. It turned out really nice. I picked up most of the bought stuff from a local shop in Mt Airy, MD.
