I received my Chambers kit today.
I am looking through the pieces to identify all the parts.
After referencing the parts against the books I think I have things figured out.
The one thing I don't understand is the piece that has a thread hole on the end I presume is the end piece to the ram rod. It is steel, not brass and the diameter of it is much smaller than the diameter of the ramrod itself. There is not a seperate item in brass, that can be the tip
I may have to call and ask

I have to wait a "few" weeks for my barrel to come.

The stock came with a flat board taped to the top surface of the barrel channel. Should I leave that on while I wait for the barrel?

What do you recomment to polich the brass sideplate. thimbles etc.?
I can get started on that while I wait

thanks in advance for everyone's help as I progress through this project. I really appreciate it.

That sounds like the ramrod tip. The threaded end is for a cleaning jag, etc. The outside diameter should be close to the diameter of the ramrod.

If it were me, I'd leave the board taped to the stock to help prevent warping until the barrel get there and you can start the final fitting of the barrel.

The brass is easily, with elbow grease, polished with files, and sand paper. If the Brass parts, like the trigger guard, are cast you can start to clean them up with files to get all the casting marks off. Is the side plate cast or is it cut from sheet brass? With sandpaper, use finer and finer until the file marks are gone. Steel wool also works if the part is already smooth (like sheet brass) to polish.

I'm guessing it's the vent liner.... As far as I know Chambers doesn't include RR tips in his kits.

Uh, guess I should have thought about that a bit more. oops. He didn't give a size.

edited because he did and I didn't catch it "the diameter of it is much smaller than the diameter of the ramrod itself"

Mike,
The ramrod measures 6/16 inch diameter
this metal piece is 1 and 3/4 inch long with an outside diameter of 5/16 and an inside of 4/16. On one end there is a screw hole that extends approx 9/16 in depth.

It must be a tip. the only thing I cannot figure out is if I shave the ramrod down to 4/16 diameter even with the tip on it will be 1/16 dimeter smaller than the remainder of the ramrod...unless I am to taper that differece back

Have ordered 2 Early Lancaster kits from Chambers and both included a brass RR tip. The undersized RR tip is for a tapered RR which will pass by the front lockbolt which oftentimes protrudes into the RR hole.......Fred

Sounds like a ramrod tip of the wrong size to me.
IMO it should be 3/8 inch diameter.

Yes, keep the stock taped to the board.
If you had a barrel I would say keep the barrel taped into the stock to keep it straight.

It won't fit through the pipes if it's 3/8". 5/16" is correct and the rod must be tapered to fit.
