as ive mentioned in some previous threads id really like to get a custom built Jaeger rifle. ive got a decent idea of what i want in the rifle and a solid idea on what ill be able to afford. so the remaining question is... who should i ask to build it for me?

at first i was looking at TVM but im looking for a bit higher quallity then what ive heard about them. however, id really like to be able to get the rifle within a year (before next years ML season to be exact).

my price range will be under $2000 and the builder needs to be someone reputable and trustworthy. (i get nervous throwing around 4 digits)

thanks all.

You might talk to Chris Immel, aka "Stophel," who posts here on this board. I don't know if he does commissions, but he knows German guns as well as any.

There's also Mitch Yates, aka "tallbear" on the forum. He just built the auction rifle for the CLA show. He might work within your price range, but don't hold me to that.

Enjoy, J.D.

Do you really want a German jaeger? If so, you'll need European walnut and that costs big $. Or do you want an early short barreled colonial rifle built in the European style? Parts alone will run $850 or more, depending on the wood (blank versus precarve and figure). Your price point will be hard to meet, for $500 more you're in the ballpark of many builders.

Your price, delivery time and built by a reputable builder aren't realistic. Possibly an up and coming builder w/ the necessary skills would take on your jäger, but this would require a lot of research on your part to find this builder. Jägers aren't all that easy to build, if in fact, the finished rifle would actually look like a jäger....Good luck on your quest....Fred

There are builders out there who could probably do it, as in builders who don’t advertise or do it as a hobby- but guys who are sure-fire top notch builders with great reputations (i.e. Roy Stroh, Mike Brooks, Alan Martin, Etc.) won’t be able to deliver within your parameters.

You know the adage: low price, quality, timely delivery”¦ pick two.

I gotta believe there are still guys out there who will assemble one of the better kits like those by Chambers and keep it close to $2000 total. Now engraving and anything other than basic carving like mouldings and such would be out but you could have that done at a later time.

Don't know, J.D.

There is a good builder in Shelton Wa.Mr Dave Dolliver,I do not know if he builds Jaegars. He is in the phonebook, google 411.If he does not build what you want he can get you in touch with the Wash. State Gunbuilders Guild. For some reason or other I am reluctant to part with the money it costs for a custom without meeting the builder and seeing and shouldering his work.Contact Dave he is a real gentleman and a fine craftsman.

Names given so far have excellent reputations.
But, remember, there is an old saying: Never reccomend a barber, restaurant or lawyer. Because no matter how good they are, someone has had a bad experience with every one at one time.
Same might be said of ml builders. Ask me why my Jaeger was built twice....... :(

Might you be looking for a Jaeger similar to this?

Nobody has mentioned Tip Curtis as being a possible source of these. I saw a Jaeger in his shop and saw some very nice walnut cut along those lines. Not my particular area, but it looked good to me.
