Hi, just wondering what load would you guys recommend for a British Dragoon 9in barrel .62 cal Copy? should I use fffg or ffg and how many grains etc., as you can tell I`m new to this but getting hooked.

Mine is .62 cal but has a 12" barrel, and I have not really tried to work up an accurate load for it, but I have played around with 30 gr. fffg powder. Probably will not want to go much more than that due to the recoil. Just gotta play and find what it likes best, just like any long gun.

I use ffg powder !
as far as load for that model Mine has a 18 in barell ..but it will work good in yours i BELIEVE
"1st proof the barell"
But when thats done and you are not worried of breech plugs going south..

Take a EMPTY 7.62 nato cartridge ..Thats now your powder measure.."and only use BLACK POWDER"

Fill cartridge 75% dump it in a clean dry barell put a patchched 58 cal ball on it and go to town..

Also 1 50 cal ball with 3 36 cal balls is fun. over 1/2 filled cartridge amount of powder.

ENJOY and always err on the side of caution....

:hmm:
also now that I think of it.....
Agood way to get used to your piece is to load light and just use shot and paper wadding

Example..50% of a 7.62 nato cartridge amount of powder, then a layer of newspaper pack that down..1/4 oz of shot "bb's" and then pack a bit of newspaper on that to hold the shot in place.....

Its a really simple and easy way to get used to your piece..At least it was for me.

Hope that helps some!

Cheers

Well In my opinion.....I would suggest you remove the barell ... remove screw that is at rear barel tang....THEN pop out those pins that are under the barell.

Barell will come out then....look under rear of barell tang "thats where the breach plug is...

how does it look? is there a plug?? before reassembly you may wish to use pressure grease on lower barell parts.."rust protection""

if all looks good "no rust, good and solid plug present" reassemble..

load your piece double normal load with 1 tight ball...tie securly to tree...attach a lanyard to the trigger"be sure to make it long enough to reach your cover!! :winking: "

prime pan
cock hammer

Get to your cover....

feel safe?

pull lanyard..

"should go boom"

take down piece dis assemble/ inspect reassemble and repeat...2 or 3 times....

After that use 1/2 that load with confidence!!

hope that helps. :v
