I have a couple of questions reguarding reenacting...

1. Do you rotate being killed in mock-battles or do you take the bullet every time?

2. Is there promotions in rank in reenacting?
I ask because not everyone can be the general, but no one wants to stay a private all the time either...

Good questions!

I've seen one shot wipe out a whole squad if they happened to be in the shade at the moment!

It's always best to die in the shade.

I could see if you were reenacting someone who is supposed to die in a certain battle, then said person (whoever played him) would always fall...

But to be killed battle after battle would get redundant...

A private for life, eheheee.....now that would be a cool soilder........20 years still buck private

I guess the scenario might dictate how many take hits or who or just when. Years ago when I did some CW events we were at times asked to go down when we ran out of cartridges. Not scientific but it worked out OK at the time. Some folks really have the fine art of agonizing death down to a "T"!

Now you've done it! Claude M dun posted my grad picture and someone unearthed my servicin' record. Private for 20 years. It ain't so! They only "let me" stay 4. When the wa-ah wuz over they wuz dun wit me! I'm agonna sic them trial lawyers on you, too. They nowed I couldn't read an write when they took me! I tole them. My privates been invaded after I dun spent 4 years "servicing" mah country!

The group of re-enactors I know make some occasionaly play "yankees" or "redcoats"! Some are assigned characters as roles who live, or die. I like to simiulate a camp "follower" who provides likker and keeps the wimmens company while their men are re-enacting. Mother Williams didn't raise a foolish "chile".

In my old unit (six years, four as company commander), we would rotate who took hits each battle. In battles where our side was suuposed to lose, we took more, often upwards of 75-90%. A good rule of thumb I always tried to live by is that if I looked up and saw someone aiming right at me and looking me in the eye when he pulled the trigger, I was done for. Of course, that doesn't mean you couldn't fall over, jerk a bloody rag around an arm or other non-deadly spot and then get back up and back to fighting.

Regarding rank, most units (that I ever heard of) hold elections annually. The commanding officer is elected and runs the club. In some units, he would apoint his staff and NCOs and such. In my unit, all such positions (from Corporal on up, as well as Treasurer, Secretary, Ordinance and Quartermaster Sergeants) were also voted on by the entire unit. This made sure that the people in charge 1. Knew they had the support of the Unit and 2. Could be removed if necessary.
