This not a rant.
I am currently emailing back and forth to Remington Arms
concerning a recent batch of percussion caps that had appprox. 25% failure which is unusual in my experience.
And no it is not the ML as other caps functioned fine.
Question is has anyone else had any experience contacting
the Remington Co. and if so what was your result?
The following is what has transpired thus far:

25% failure.
I have been using remington products and/or percussion caps for 45-50 years.
I am disappointed or distressed in the last purchase of N0.11 percussion caps.
When deer hunting I hit a cap three times and it did not go off.
Today when using the same caps I had a 25% failure.

I need some help.
I have never had this problem before with remington and certainly not other caps from other companies.
Why?
What would you recommend?
Thanks in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

Thank you for contacting Remington Country. I would recommend trying a new pack to see if it is the caps or the firearm. If the firing pin is not striking hard enough to ingnite them it may need cleaning or the main spring replacing.

If you continue to have problems, we recommend taking/shipping the firearm to one of the following Remington Premier Repair Centers for inspection.

As you have ruled out the firearm as the problem, I would recommend taking the caps back to the dealer for exchange. They can ship them back to the plant for inspection. This has not been a recurring problem so we are unable to offer a cause of the problem. We appreciate your patience.

There is a misunderstanding.
I am not having trouble with any firearm.
Therefore I do not need to send any firearm in for repair or warrenty work.
I did not question a firearm.
I questioned percussion caps.
Since the problem arose I did try different percussion caps
that seemed to work just fine.
The original issue remains unresolved.

I am encouraged by the timely response and willingness to help.

I knew there was a reason I never used Remington caps. I've popped a hell of alot of RWS German caps at the range and a good number on deer and have never had one fail (knock on wood).

I recently had a bunch of misfires with Remington caps on my replica 1860 Army Colt. Since the caps had been around for a while I just assumed they had gotten wet or something and dumped them. I replaced them with CCI, I believe. I didn't contact Remington and after reading your post I'm not about to. :shake:

Doc,

Don't sweat it, can't you just return them to the dealer where you purchased them from? after all that is who you originally dealt with, not Remington.

Good luck with it, especially if you've purchased thousands of them!

Jim.

PS you are ranting! :blah:

I don't use em either I ain't figured out how to keep em over my flash hole yet!

But seriously I had the same problem back a few years ago when I shot cap guns! Cost me a decent 8 pointer! I was p/o!

I use Dynamit Nobel German caps exclusively when I shoot my rifle-musket. Never had a misfire due to a faulty cap yet. They can even stand a good deal of moisture which they are designed to do.(Just like the originals). I also used winged musket caps which from what I've seen, seem to have a lower failure rate to start with.
:) :results:

All I can add is at least you got a reply!..
I have sent remmington a few different e-mails to a few different questions and have not once recieved a reply back

My last e -mail to them was since you can't reply to my questions,Winchester is looking better all the time.

Update this may become a rant yet.

Called Remington Co. and asked about problems with the caps.
I was told that the only way this could be looked into was to send the cardboard of the package that the caps came on.
I don't know about the rest of you but I do not keep the packaging material/containers of products unless there may be another use of it.

I wonder is this response is characteristic of Remington and if so enough said.
