The descriptions I've read simply say "Blued".

The following is just my opinion but charcoal bluing is a rather specialized process that did not lend itself to mass production in the mid 19th Century. They didn't have the precision furnaces we have today.

Rust bluing on the other hand is an easy process that could be done on a large scale even back in those days.

I don't know that I would call it an "armory" finish but a rust blue process basically browns the metal and then converts it to black.
Colt and Smith & Wesson both used this process to create their beautiful "blued" guns.
