Hello fellow charcoal burners!I have noticed that Remington caps have 4 small cut outs on their caps edge. When using these on a cap n ball, they split into an X, easily falling off the nipples.

Winchester caps, on the other hand, lack this feature. No big deal when punching paper.Just have to make sure they are not jamming up the action when drawing the hammer back.

I sometimes use my piece when hog hunting,it would sure suck out loud to get a jam when you need that follow up shot in a hurry.I got about 700 Winchester caps, but, sadly only about 40 Remmys left.Oh well, better them than none.Any one else notice this difference.

I find it interesting that you noticed a difference. I was under the impression that they were both made by the same company and just rebranded. If there is a difference then it seems logical that they might be made by different companies. I myself have used both and not noticed a difference. :idunno:

I have used Remingtons almost exclusively for over 25 years and have never used Winchester caps but I have never had a problem with a Rogers & Spenser, Remington or Spiller & Burr. Colts styles are a different story.

There is a small but noticeable difference.Remmys have a slight undulating margin.Winchesters are straight. The Remintons will typically, upon firing, look like a piece of meow mix.

The Winchesters don't seem to do this, but rather are a little more stubborn.Never had a misfire with either one though,so im happy in that department :) .Just a slight irritation ive noticed.

Im tellin yall the truth, I wouldn't pull your leg for the fun of it.

I wish I had a camera, im sitting here looking at the two side by side. The Winchester has an oarangish compound while the Remington has a green contents inside. Also the Remington has a bottom edge that has 4 distinct notches that is where the fired caps split at.

Its also possible I got a different lot though.FWIW

From what I've seen posted many times by others is that it is the CCI caps that are just rebranded under the Winchester name.

I use only the Rem #10's, though my TOTW nipples claim to be designed for the standard CCI #11 (non magnum), which I can't find.

I think this nice drawing I got off of a web site shows what swamp chicken is talking about.

It doesn't show a Winchester cap but it does show the Remington along with two other brands.

Two companies own almost the entire shooting, hunting and outdoor sports industry.

Alliant Techsystems and Cerberus Capital Management.
Yeah, we have a refrigerator/freezer plant here in town it's been here 50yrs.
They make 6 different name brands,, but they each have their own specifics.
Just like those unit's, caps are different by name brand,, they are not all the same.

Yeah, I used to say I couldn't wait to get old so I could stop hearing all the old folks tell me to wait till I get old, now I aint so sure anymore
