I am trying my best to get back into Blackpowder shooting, and practice for other events. I have read that they usually have Tomahawk & knife throwing contests as well. I have been practicing throwing my knife & hawk, but I don't know what the distance is in the events from the throwing line to the target.
I was hoping that you guy's could tell me the distance for each one so that I could start practicing at that distance. Your help is much appreciated. Thank you for your time.

There is a minimum distance at most contests to keep the clowns from walking up and sticking the hawk in the block. The rules are usually three paces that you have to throw from beyond or one complete turn. Most people throw from 5, 6, or 7 paces so it isn't a problem. Every once in a while you will find a target sitting on the ground that will require sticking the hawk with the handle up. That is a turn and a half throw that requires backing up a few more steps and throwing with the blade facing backwards.

Here's the basic's . Back to block, walk 7 natural steps for one turn. I go 7-8 heel to toe more for the one-half throw, hawk is turned blade to back. will stick with the handle up. You might have to move a step or half on these distance .You have to learn to eyeball the distances, as they have you throw back of a stake. They go get your hawk so you can't the steps. You have your handle as long as from your middle knuckle to your elbow. The longer the handle, the further back you have to be. The two turns is about 30 steps. Dilly
