I have a older T/C Renegade that I want to make a little more traditional looking,I want to replace the rear sight,Can anyone tell how to remove the factory sight, Also have plans to brown the barrel and all the furniture. I read where some people use muratic acid to remove blueing, has anyone tried this? Thanks in advance for any info.

Is it the TC adjustable rear site? If it is I believe you take out the elevation screw and then drift the roll pin (pivot pin) out. That will expose the two screws in the base. That is how the site on my Hawken is, should be similiar. :hmm:

I can't comment on Muric acid, I would just use the Blue Remover from Birchwood Casey (I believe that is who makes it).

Muriatic acid is hydrochloric, if that's any help. It should act as a mild reducer. In other words it should remove bluing, but that's just a guess from an old chemical technician. Your results may vary.
By the way, wear gloves and protect your lungs.

I used LMF browning chemical, stuff works great I did this flinter about 3 years ago and still looks as good as the day it was finished

Navel jelly will take the blue off. Most hardware stores have it for removing rust. If you use acid you need to neutralize it after use or the barrel will rust very quick. It will give a good start to a brown barrel.

I'd leave the gun blue unless it is a flinter. By the time caplocks were popular, so was bluing. Once you remove the factory sights you can get a set of more traditional looking "California sights" from Jededia Smith Trading Post or Dixie Gun Works. You can find either catalogue on the internet. I got a pair for my Renegade and they work and look great. The sights come unfinished. They need to be filed a bit so that they will take cold bluing to match the gun. Or you can watch ebay for an older set of Thompson Center fixed sights. But they don't look very PC. By the way if you decide you want to add a traditional pineapple shaped patchbox to your stock, I have a kit that I bought for my Renegade that I'm never going to get around to adding. Its yours for $10.00 (free shipping).
