I want to replace the #11 nipple on my T/C Hawken with a system that uses a small pistol or small rifle primer.

I saw one at my local range but the owner did not know where to find one.

Is this item still in production?
I don't know the proper name for it so I have not had any luck searching the internet.

Please point me in the right direction

I believe it's called an Accra-shot. I've seen them on Ebay now and then.

I have one in 6x.75 thread that came in a small lot of stuff I got at auction.
Looks like a useless little piece of junk to me.
#11 caps do the job.

Are you shooting Black Powder in that rifle? If not, why not? If you are, you certainly don't need anything more than a standard #11 cap to ignite the charge, if you are cleaning and loading the rifle properly.

The Slug gun Shooters, who use underhammer rifles, use these devices to ignite HUGE charges of black powder. They are slow to refill, and its easy to lose the screw on cap that holds the primer in place. I do NOT recommend using this for any gun that will be taken into the field. Finding those dropped parts at a range is difficult enough! :cursing: :nono: :hatsoff:

There's another issue that might crop up. Even magnum and musket percussion caps generate enough extra pressure to unseat the ball from the powder charge before it begins burning properly. This plays havoc on pressures and causes all sorts of inconsistencies that show up as poor accuracy. I don't know how primers compare to percussion caps as far as pressures go, but if they generate more than the gun needs for ignition, accuracy will go right out the window because of it.

On the other hand, the small rifle primers might promote better ignition and more complete powder combustion which could actually improve performance.
It could be worth a try if one could be found to fit the TC, especially to increase ignition reliability and to eliminate potential hangfires during that first shot while hunting.
But it's also more difficult and time consuming to remove a spent primer from the device.

Since I learned how to clean my guns properly, seal the cap (melted wax) and seal the barrel end (duct tape) I've never had a hang/misfire using #11 caps and real blackpowder.

Don't fix things that are not broken............

If you cannot clean your gun properly and/or seal up things when hunting here is a link to a conversion to shotgun primers: Shotgun primer nipples
