Here's a tough question for you...

We had five tornados in the Andover area in the last 3 days, luckily none touched down and all my little village got was a few branches down...

But it got me a thinking... :shocking: OMG, he's thinking again!

"If" you lost every material thing you owned due to a tornado and had to replace your lifestyle, (once the basics are done and you could finally do something for yourself, of course) what muzzleloader would you replace first?

I would still go with the musket...

My first replacement would be a .54cal flintlock in case it turned out to be the only one I had time to buy & hunt with before I went to the big treestand in the sky.

Well now, there's one I don't have to stretch my brain on....54 smooth rifle...best of both worlds. Be a Siler lock on a 42-48 inch swamped barrel....iron hardware...double set triggers. I could wreak havoc on the squirrel population with shot, or knock a fat whietail plumb outten its hide out to a hunnert yards with ball if need be(seldom is)...feed myself right easy...might even win a shootin match or 2 now and then. Most likely use the same load of shot as a 20 guage smooth...and probably 65-70 grains of powder behind a .530 ball and thick ticking. Wouldnt even care iffn the wood was walnut or maple long as it were stained dark. Closest thang to a all-round gun this child could get I recon. I've owned from .30 to .75 caliber....barrels from 31 to 56 inches in length...woods from cherry to walnut to maple to ash....there is some good in all of them, but the smooth.54 has most of the characteristics that please me.

What Roundball said, .54 flint rifle - except for the treestand part. I hunt with my feet on the ground BECAUSE I don't want to go to the Pearly Stumps at the Happy Hunting Grounds any sooner than I have to.

WWJS? What would Jesus shoot?

2 Shadows, I don't have a .54 smoothie to replace but if I had to start over, I think your right, that would be the place to start. Been thinking about building one of those.

I try to remember a similar little reminder acronym:

WWDD

(What Would Daniel Do)

i'd have an underground concrete bunker in those areas of tornados so i can put my muzzies in there to keep them nice and warm and safe.... :haha: :haha: :haha:....so i would not have to worrie about replacing them...............bob
