In an attempt at instant gratification I purchased the Uberti Navy I had been eyeing for a birthday present. Elsewhere on this forum it has been pointed out that at the moment nobody seems to have Uberti Navies in stock. The seller's web site lists London models as in stock, and I called them to see if they had any with brass trigger guards and back straps.
I am interested in getting as accurate a replica of a Union officers side arm from 1863 as possible. I failed to confirm that the weapon had an oval trigger guard, I received a square-back.
Since this seller is a mom and pop operation I would like to explore my options before I ask them to refund my money.
Even if square backs would have been common mid-war, I kinda have my heart set on an oval trigger guard.
My question is: How close would a replacement Uberti oval trigger guard fit this new gun? I can feel that the walnut of the grip is off on one side by at least 1/100", so it wasn't sanded in place to begin with. If the metal parts are all computer machined, the screws should line up perfectly, and the trigger guard has minimal exposure to moving parts...
Thoughts?
