Wondering what others are shooting, because I am struggling. I have a repro Stile Remington 1858 from the 80’s and have always shot #55 and am now shooting 1055 which I was told are the same, and they do appear to be. Problem is, caps don’t fit in either of my in line cappers. The caps are to long. I loaded by fingers today but that is a pain. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Also, I have no idea what nipples are on the gun.

You may not get many replies. I haven’t heard anyone mention #55 caps in decades. Pretty much all discussions nowadays are musket, 1075s, #10s and 11s. I wasn’t even aware they were still made.

Darn, I guess ill be loading by hand until I use up the 300 I just bought:). Got them at Travelers. He laughed when I asked for 55's. Said same thing you said. They have been called 1055 for a while now I guess. They fit my nipples really well. Maybe I'll canger nipples when I'm out

Split the open end of the cap with a sharp knife.Or you could chuck up the nipple and turn it with a small file. I ordered from same place and have been shooting them in my Cherokee 45. 1055 caps will work and are very hot.
