Gentleman,

I am looking at a Colt Patterson and a 51 Navy to add to my collection. I used to swear by Uberti, but lately have been less than pleased with the fit and finish. What are your opinions on those marketed by Cimmarron? Are the fit and finish any better?

Also, would charcoal blue or standard blue be correct for each gun? Thanks

Standard blue since WWII has been mostly the hot bath salts. These weren't around back then. Maybe they used charcoal. I would bet Doug Turnbull's shop would know. He's about the best there is for period correct restorations.

Cimmaron's (I hate double consonants--is is two "m's" or two "r"'s?)website mentions their new "original" finish. I can't tell if it is meant to look aged of if it is just of a higher quality.

The "original" finish offred by Cimarron is an aged, antiqued look.

I have looked all through my Colt and black powder reference books. It looks like the Patterson had a charcoal blue type.
