Richmond .54 cal Muzzloader

I was just in a local pawn shop and I seen an interesting muzzleloader in there that I have never heard of or seen before.

It is a very nice looking rifle as the wood is some kind of really nice hard wood stained red and it has really nice checkering on the butt stock and forearm. Unfortunately the barrel is a waste do to not being cleaned.

The rifle is a lot larger than most Hawken style rifles made today like the Thompson.

The rifle is marked Richmond imported from Italy and then something about Michigan.

Do you know anything about these rifles as I can not find anything on the internet about them.

If bought for a good price is it worth re-barreling?

My mistake as it is not Richmond but it is Richland of Blissfield, MI.

They are asking $160 for it but to me it needs a new barrel and not worth it unless the locks are of some kind of high grade. I do know the stock is very nice.

Do you know who made these for them? It is marked Italy. Would it be Pietta?

Richland Arms imported guns in the 1960s-1980s most were made by ASM, not the highest quality for locks. You should see the makers mark along with proof marks to ID when it was made. Yep, after looking it up on the internet I have learned that Richland went out of business in 1986 and that their guns were on the low side of good quality.

Also the one I seen today had modern checkering and I am almost sure that it would not fit in the traditional category if it was taken to a rendezvous and it would probably get picked at a lot.

The bore was too far gone to save the barrel and it would need a new barrel. I was just really impressed with how nice the wood is.

Anyway, it is not something I am now interested in.
