No,I am not offering a trade  .
My wife needs and deserves a better shooting rifle, especially since her Traditions has developed less than reliable or consistant accuracy.Any ideas on a short LOP(12 1/2-13") not "farby" percussion rifle?
Thanks,
Paul

Well, that clears it up a bit. :rotf:
I'm not sure I'd trade a rifle for my own wife (obviously she doesn't read this Forum!!)

Seriously, have you considered one of the more modern T/C rifles? Especially the Renegade with its' flat steel buttplate: they come from the factory with an approximately 13 1/2" LOP, and it's a straight cut to simply chop off the inch or so necessary to fit your gal.

Unless she'll end up with a nicer gun than you do... :haha:

Don't know if this quite fits the bill, but if size or weight are issues at all, you might look at a Lyman Trade or Deer Slayer/Stalker rifle. I know it's not fancy, but they shoot straight, are short and light, and are easy to clean. Easy on the wallet too...save a couple of buks and take that wifey to a B&B or sumpthin to celebrate the new smokepole.

My Trade Rifle isn't too heavy for kids to work it at Boy Scouts, and some kid's moms' tried it out too :shocked2: . They all shot-out the middle of a clay-bird :winking: .

P.S.: There are other sites for swaps :rotf: . My Wife is worth more than all my stuff, and unless I want her to wind-up with half of it, I'll just keep thinking that way :shocked2: .

All the best, Dave

Mike Lea "The Gun Doctor" makes a super lightweight gun for women and children. It is a copy of an original flint "boys" gun. The gun is English in styling and has gorgeous lines. My wife's .50 smoothbore weighs about 5#. Mike either sells the parts as a kit or will make up a completed gun. The stock will fit either the .50 smoothbore or a .45 rifle barrel. He advertises in Muzzle Blasts.

How bout a nice T/C White Mountain? The butt would be very easy to shorten up and the barrel is truncated, so it would be scaled down on both ends, but still shoot a 50 cal prb or maybe a Lee target mini which I hear makes a great hunter.

Try Brad Emig at Cabin Creek in Helam PA. Near York. He is on the web I think its www.cabincreek.net/custom_muzzleloading.

Dickert54,I have seen the Cabin Creek catalog and am considering one of his rifles.BTW,my wife is from York...

Many Klatch,I looked for the Gun Doctor in my latest Muzzleblasts but did not see an add..?I'll check my back issue pile next.

Thanks again guys,we appreciate the input.

PaulN,
Last year's doe with a T/C WMC. Mine's in 54cal. but you get the idea. Light and handy carbine that shoots well.

I would take a look at the Lyman Deerstalker, and see if it fits her. I have used one for the past 14 years, and although I have got a new Trade rifle in .54, the Deerstalker will be kept for my Grandson.

More good suggestions and our thanks to ya'll...

Her main concern is the fit so we will be testing fits of as many of the choices we can get a hold of.
Best regards,
Paul

You mentioned the word "FIT"---I agree a gun should fit the owner. That said the next choice one has is to go to a good builder and have them make you a gun that fits 'you'. A gun from the store is built with the avg. person in mind. I dont know any avg. people when it comes to shooting.... :hmm:
