I forged ths Last week when I was waiting for the wrought iron to etch on the bowie. The steel is apiece of file. Handle elk antler and guard and end cap and wrought iron. It a tang throw with the tang peened over. Polished to 220 sand paper. No edge yet

Very good looking lines on it, James! :hatsoff:

What is the blade length and overall length?

Steve

Nice work. The blade is similar to one found in an excavation at Ft. Ticonderoga. The earthwork the blade was found in was supposed to have been constructed in 1777, if I remember correctly, so the blade is pretty close to one actually carried in the Rev War. Don't think the original had a guard though.

IMHO, I wouldn't etch it, just use it to cut an onion when making a sandwich. The acid in the onion will discolor the blade quite nicely.

God bless
