This is a pretty tight representation of the famous "Edward Marshall" rifle built by Ron Luckenbill of Emporium , PA.
This one is built around a Rice .58 cal swamped 38" Marshall profile barrel, a Chambers "Dale Johnson" lock and Reaves Goehring castings. Stock is a nicely figured hunk of maple from Cameron Co. PA.

While this one isn't an all PA build like my Beck, the original rifle itself has some very interesting PA history.....from the Walking Purchase to outright indian hunting in response to an indian massacre of settlers in Gnadenhuten in eastern PA. (Modern day Lehighton PA) My wife works in that very town and I know the area well so this seemed like a great choice for an early styled gun. I think I read somewhere that the original Marshall rifle may be responsible for killing more people in this country than any other single gun!
Mine of course will just be responsible for punching holes in deer and paper but its hard not to look at it and think about the history!

Hope you like it. :hatsoff:

That is one SUPERB-looking rifle! There's a so many things to like about it, but I will mention just one; that very nice greyish finish on the barrel. Hope to see a range report soon and some pictures of a big buck come autumn :hatsoff:

That is one gorgeous rifle. I like the older style rifles. After I get my Tulle I had planned on a Christian Spring or an early Virginia in .58 but now I'm torn

This one is BRAND new, and I haven't had a chance to "file and dial" it yet, but judging by Ron's test target it looks like it is going to have serious potential! :shocked2: Rice barrels are awesome. Judging by this simply upping it to a hunting weight charge might put me right where I want to be.

Thank you all.....Ron sure does a great job, and I was fortunate to have had a small hand in the building process on this one. I actually got to do a little stock shaping, inletting, brass finish work, barrel draw filing, drilling etc. And by a little I mean Ron was right there to keep me from turning it into a tomato stake.

Here are a couple progress pics from over the winter.

And so it begins.....

Yes that's me pretending I know what I'm doing with the rasp.....

After a weekend of work from a plank of wood and components.....still very chunky but hinting at the finished rifle within.

I just realized how blue/red the pictures of the finished rifle came out after looking closer :td: ......the rifle is more golden in tone than most of these pics show. Must have been the overcast and storm rolling in.
The close up of the lock hints at the actual rifle color.
I might have to take some new pics in the setting sun to show the true color a little better. Its a gorgeous rifle.
